THE SBM EDUCATION FUND
The SBM Scholarship Scheme is meant for bright students in need of financial support to pursue further studies in tertiary institutions in Mauritius recognised by the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC). The idea is to provide scholarships to needy students with family household income of less than Rs 15,000 per month. In order to support measures to eradicate absolute poverty in Mauritius, a special consideration is being given to meritorious students who come from a family with a household income not exceeding Rs 6,200 per month and registered either at the National Empowerment Foundation or at the Social Register of Mauritius.
From 57 scholarships in 2010 and doubling in number to 104 awardees in 2011, SBM in 2012 has awarded 125 scholarships. In 2013, SBM awarded 193 scholarships and in 2014, we had more than 200 beneficiaries, a number we are keen to upsurge in 2015. Students from Rodrigues and disabled students are also amongst the beneficiaries.
The closing date for submission of applications was 14 August 2015.
