Dear Valued Customers,
We wish to inform you of recent cases of phone scams targeting banking institutions and related to lucky draw cash prizes.
How does it happen?
• Fraudsters call clients on WhatsApp or Viber pretending to be bank officers and inform clients that they have won cash prizes following a lucky draw.
• Then, they start to query for confidential information like NIC number, account number, password, PIN codes, OTP codes and other relevant financial details.
• They might even threaten clients of losing the money if information is not provided in a timely manner.
Kindly note that SBM will never ask customers to share account information over phone calls. As such, you are advised not to respond to unknown international callers and it is also recommended to block these numbers.
If you encounter such cases, please report them immediately to the Bank on 207 01 11/ 202 12 56 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org
